The Opel Meriva is a minivan of 4.30 meters in length that is on sale from 15 642 euros with a petrol engine of 101 hp and from 17 567 euros with a diesel of 110 hp.
The 2014 Meriva is a renewal of the model that appeared in 2010 ( more information on the Opel Meriva model 2010 ), it is not a new generation. The exterior and interior appearance remains almost unchanged. The most important innovation of the model is that the diesel engine of 110 hp has passed since August 2015 to be ecoFLEX – brand name for its engines of low consumption -, so that consumes 3.8 l / 100 km, 0.6 Less than before. It is also relevant that since that same date, Opel offers standard for all versions of the Meriva the assistance and emergency phone OnStar.
The characteristic door-opening system – the rear doors in the opposite direction to the front – is still without variations as well as the configuration possibilities of the seats. In the article of the Meriva 2010 you can read the impressions of the interior .
The 1.6 liter diesel engine with 136 hp replaces the 1.7 CDTI of 131 hp. With this engine , whose trade name is “1.6 CDTI” – the average consumption of fuel is 4.4 l / 100 km, ie 0.9 l / 100 km less than the replaced motor. It is a smoother and quieter engine than the one it replaces, but it still does not match those of similar power in other respects (eg Honda and Renault). In the section of Driving impressions there is more information of the test of this version.
There is another diesel engine: the mentioned 1.6 CDTI ecoFLEX 110 hp. Until August of 2015 Meriva was commercialized with a 1.3 CDTI engine of 95 CV and also with a 1.7 CDTI engine of 110 CV, that was the unique Diesel of the range associated to an automatic gearbox. The two diesel engines currently available can only carry a six-speed manual transmission.
There are three petrol engines, all comply with the Euro 6 and have 1.4 liters of displacement. One is atmospheric (101 hp) and the other two are turbocharged (with 120 hp and 140 hp). The latter two can be ordered with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Of the engine of 120 hp there is a variant prepared to use LPG as fuel. It gives the same power as in the Meriva of 2010, but its average consumption has declined substantially .
Opel says it has worked on five- and six-speed manual gearboxes to make them faster, smoother and more precise.
The Meriva with the diesel engine 1.6 CDTI 110 hp costs 17 567 euros. A Citroën C3 Picasso or a Fiat 500L are more affordable alternatives and a Hyundai ix20 is more expensive, although all have bodies between 15 and 20 centimeters shorter. A Ford C-MAX 120 hp costs about € 2500 more, although it is more powerful and almost 10 cm longer.
The IntelliLink multimedia system consists of a seven-inch screen from which you can operate the sound system, GPS navigation, use of the mobile phone (previously connected via Bluetooth) and other related functions. There are two versions of this system, Navi 650 and Navi 950, which differ by the number of functions they can perform. IntelliLink has been available for some time on other Opel models such as the ADAM and the Insignia .
The Meriva can now have LED daytime running lights and a new series of 17-inch and 18-inch diameter tires. The front grille has a slightly different design than the model it replaces and the pilots have also undergone small design changes.
