Ford is in the habit of stealing the show at the Detroit Auto Show, and this year will be no exception. The manufacturer Dearborn kicked off the year with the unveiling of its new Mustang Shelby GT500.
With the Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford launches what becomes nothing less than the fastest production Mustang ever built. Not bad, for a model that blows 55 candles this year!
The heart of the beast is a 5.2 liter supercharged V8 whose aluminum block is handcrafted. Ford has refrained from giving precise specifications, but the manufacturer already speaks of a power “greater than 700 horses”.
With the Shelby GT500, Ford is tackling models like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat , whose new version Redeye offers a barely believable stable of 797 horses!
Still without giving any precise figures, Ford promises a machine able to go from 0 to 100 km / h in less than four seconds and able to cross the quarter of a mile under the bar of 11 seconds.
These statistics, the Shelby Mustang obviously owes its engine, but also to a new seven-speed automatic with double clutch. For those looking for the manual gearbox, forget about it right now. You\’ll have to settle for the Shelby GT350 and its 526 horses.
With the Shelby Mustang GT500, Ford has also focused on aerodynamics and on a support force optimized by an enlarged body and a flap all that is more functional. Ford also claims to have incorporated a magnetorheological suspension to offer unequaled road handling.
Inside, the GT500 is equipped with 12-inch full-digital instrumentation behind the steering wheel as well as an eight-inch touchscreen incorporating the SYNC3 multimedia system. As if the sound of his V8 was not enough to satisfy your ears, Ford also offers a sound system Bang & Olufsen 12 speakers.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will arrive at dealerships this fall. The price of this new beast has still not been announced.
