I tested the Audi A4 Avant on the roads of Provence. Ups and downs, twists and turns, bumps to no end, they have put a strain on the driveability. Despite the A4 road it seemed always comfortable and never abrupt. It proved to be an excellent traveling companion, silent, easy to handle and responsive, almost made me forget to be on board of a station wagon. The structure absorbs the bumps well, but do not be too soft: the calibration is very appropriate. Excellent sound insulation: even when I pressed down the four-cylinder diesel, I did not feel the usual vibrations and noise of diesel engines.The new Audi A4 follows the corners well, has good stability, especially with the four-wheel drive, and proves agile both in town and rural roads. The 120 kilograms less the MLB modular platform, the same as the \’ Audi Q7 , make you feel lighter the car, allowing higher performance and improved efficiency. Curious to test the actual skills I also tried the new Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI Ultra 150 hp noticing a lively and convincing response engine. Obviously, the acceleration is not substantial as that of the V6 3.0 TDI with 272 horses but the overall performance were better than I expected.

It makes no sense, in my opinion, trying to “pull the neck”. Better to enjoy the pleasure of driving at moderate speed, but being able to pull off all the horses when you want to take some satisfaction.

During this first contact, I tried to understand what could be the possible defects: a tall order. The overall quality is excellent. A nitpick I could criticize the finishing of some of the hidden plastic, such as covers below the dashboard, but who will never look at them? Similarly, the new system for opening doors with handles that you have to lift instead of pulling: for someone is uncomfortable, I find it practical.

A perfect car for the family then, but also for those looking for plenty of space without compromising on comfort and driving pleasure.
