A convoy of eight Jaguar XJs representing each generation of this large luxury sedan will soon be rallying to the United Kingdom and France as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. These cars will leave the Jaguar factory in Castle Bromwich to complete their journey at the Paris Motor Show, where this model was launched half a century ago.

The procession will be led by the car that originated the lineage, the XJ6 Series 1, and it will end naturally with the most recent version, the XJ50. This convoy will also include exceptional models such as the Series II coupe and XJR X350.

“The history of the Jaguar XJ has been synonymous with design, attraction and performance for 50 years. So it’s fitting that we pay tribute to him this way, “says Jaguar’s Director of Design Ian Callum in a statement released on Friday to announce the upcoming departure of the convoy.

“When I joined Jaguar, the XJ was already an icon of automotive design. I feel particularly privileged to be part of its half-century of history, “he added.

The convoy’s 839-kilometer journey includes iconic landmarks such as the Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works, the Bicester Heritage Complex, and the Goodwood and Le Mans racetracks, both of which have played important roles in the history of the Jaguar brand. , but also that of the XJ.

The trip will end at the Paris Motor Show, which will open to the public on October 4th.

The cars that will take part in this unique journey are:

  • Jaguar XJ Series I 1968
  • Jaguar XJ Series II 1973
  • Jaguar XJ Series II Coupe 1973
  • Jaguar XJ Series III 1979
  • Jaguar XJ XJ40 1986
  • Jaguar XJ X300 1994
  • Jaguar XJ X308 1997
  • 2003 Jaguar XJ X350
  • Jaguar XJ X351 2009
  • 2017 Jaguar XJR575
  • Jaguar XJ XJ50 2018

Paris is therefore of historical importance for the Jaguar XJ. In 1968, the first car bearing this name was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show (it was not until 1988 that this big fair adopted the World name of the car).

Presented by Sir William Lyons, the founder of the brand, she presented her vision of a luxury saloon combining elegance and performance, offering the handling of a Type E.

Over the years, the Paris Salon has once again marked the history of this car, for example, when the XJ X300 was unveiled in 1994, followed by the XJ X350 aluminum monocoque body in 2002.

Celebrations going on
The organization of this anniversary convoy is part of the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the XJ, which began with the unveiling of the XJ50, last April.

This special version shares the front and rear bumpers of the XJ Autobiography and features new 20 “Venom alloy wheels, a black grille grille and exclusive rear and air vent studs side.

In addition, its luxurious interior is adorned with a “Leaper” (the symbolic feline of the brand) embossed on the headrests, an XJ50 logo on the central armrest, special markings in intaglio and thresholds of illuminated doors.
