RWS is the name that Audi has put to the first R8 rear-wheel drive. Its production is limited to 999 units and you can choose both with coupe body and convertible (which Audi calls Spyder). The R8 RWS Coupé costs 165 500 euros and the RWS Spyder R8, 180 250 euros. They are, therefore, the most affordable R8 in the range.
The engine is the same as other versions of the R8: an atmospheric V10 with 5.2 liters of displacement and 540 horsepower. With it, the 2018 Audi R8 RWS Coupé is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 320 km / h (3.8 seconds and 318 km / h in the Spyder variant). In front of the all-wheel drive R8 V10 Coupé, the RWS is 0.2 seconds slower accelerating from standstill and reaches the same maximum speed. The shift is always automatic double-clutch (S tronic) and has seven speeds.
According to figures provided by Audi, the 2018 Audi R8 RWS Coupé is 50 kilograms lighter than the equivalent version of the conventional R8 thanks to the savings of eliminating the elements of the all-wheel drive system (center differential, drive shaft and multi-disc clutch ). The weight distribution is 40.6: 59.4 in the Coupe variant and 40.4: 59.9 in the Spyder (front axle: rear axle).
The adjustment of the traction and stability controls is different from any other version of the R8 and, according to Audi, is specially designed to be able to perform “controlled skidding” when selecting the Dynamic driving mode. The alloy wheels are 19 inches in diameter and have a tire size of 245/35 in the front axle and 295/35 in the rear.
The R8 RWS is distinguished from other versions of the R8 because it has some body elements painted in black (grille, front and rear air intakes and tires) and an emblem in the passenger compartment that indicates the numbering of the limited series . Optionally you can order an adhesive in red color that runs along the body and seats of the type baquet (standard come standard leather upholstery and Alcantara).
