2016 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Redesign

2016 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Redesign –   Spy shots of been cropping up here and there of the next-generation Ford Raptor. They pretty much look like regular Raptors with weird rags draped over the grille, but a photographer has finally reported something interesting about it: apparently it sounds like a turbo V6.

AutoGuide grabbed some images from Chris Doane Automotive photography, and made the observation that the mule-in-Raptor-clothing was missing the current model’s trademark blue shocks in addition to having an unusual sound.

The new, lighter, redesigned SVT Raptor will debut at Detroit in January.

Our sources has mentioned that the next-gen off road beast will weigh at LESS than 4,600 lbs, thanks to an all aluminum body on a steel frame..  This is obviously a pretty significant weight loss from the current 6,100 lbs (depending on cab configuration).  That is almost a ton of weight loss, literally.

Second, the outgoing 6.2L will be replaced with a tuned-up EcoBoost 3.5L V6, with an estimated “400+ Horsepower”.   This makes sense, considering the 2015 Navigator and Expedition are both running a 380 HP 3.5L EcoBoost motor.  We are crossing our fingers that Ford will atleast give us a 5.0L option – the Raptor would not be the same without a V8.

Also, don’t be surprised if down the road we see an EcoBoost 5.0 platform, developed specifically with the Raptor in mind – although our sources can’t confirm if this boosted V8 will debut in Detroit.

What is also very interesting is that the Raptor will be getting a suspension travel boost.  Expect 14″ in the front, and 16.3″ in the rear.

“Ford still races for the same reasons Henry Ford did in 1901 – to prove out our products and technologies against the very best in the world,” said the company’s Global Product VP Raj Nair. “The Ford Performance team will continue to pursue performance innovation, ensuring we can deliver even more coveted performance cars, utilities and trucks to customers around the world.”
